These systems carry various materials such as water, gas, oil, and chemicals, and the job involves cutting, fitting, welding, and assembling pipes to ensure they function properly in industrial, residential, and commercial settings.
Pipe fitting can involve a variety of materials depending on the application:
Steel (Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel) – Used for high-pressure systems and durable piping systems.
Copper – Common in plumbing systems due to its corrosion resistance.
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) – Often used in plumbing and irrigation for its lightweight and ease of installation.

The main steps in the pipe fitting process are:
Planning and Layout: Understanding the blueprint and pipe routing.
Measuring and Cutting: Ensuring precise measurements before cutting pipes.
Fitting and Assembling: Attaching fittings, making bends, or adding reducers.
Welding or Threading: Joining pipes and fittings with welding or threading depending on the material.

Common welding defects include:
Porosity: Small holes in the weld bead caused by trapped gas.
Cracking: Fractures in the weld or base metal due to excessive stresses or improper cooling.
Undercutting: The removal of material from the base metal along the weld bead, which weakens the joint.
Inconsistent penetration: When the weld does not penetrate deeply enough into the base material, resulting in weak joints.
Overlapping: The weld metal flows over the surface without bonding, leaving a weak joint.
